AKC Dog | Description of the AKC and the purebred dog

Did you know that the AKC (American Kennel Club) recognized eight groups of dog breed? These include sports, dog, working, terrier, toy, non-sporting, terrier, and the different groups.

The dogs are assigned to a specific group based on the reason the dog was originally bred or used for history. For example, breeding of dogs are well suited to raising animals such as cows or sheep.

Over the years, man has worked to select and implement a set of certain desirable characteristics in a particular breed of dogs to do any number of jobs. Beginning with the wolf, the animals were less fearful of humans over time become embedded in human society, to become co-workers and was finally able to organs. From there, people have continued to create dogs that were best suited to meet the needs of man.

Working dogs big and powerful to serve as guards, small toy breeds as pets, dogs cover a wide range of sizes and attributes. Through human intervention, there are more varieties of breeds of dogs of any other mammal on earth today! Did you know that there are over 400 dog breeds and now that the AKC recognizes over 150 of them?

The road to the AKC breed recognition provides the first evidence that there is sufficient national interest in the race, followed by admission to the heterogeneous group, where they can participate in competitions limited AKC. If a large breed dog show enough interest and growth, will appear in the AKC stud book, and finally placed in a regular group.

Once full membership is granted, the breed of dog is allowed to participate in all AKC events like obedience, lure courses, agility, conformation, etc. The program is one of the best known of all competitions sponsored by the AKC. In a conformation dog show, dogs are judged by a standard against breed specific characteristics such as size, color, gait and temperament. first dogs must compete with others in the same race, before going to compete with dogs of other breeds in that group, eventually to be considered for Best in Show – which means they are the best in the best of this particular event .
