This breed is well known for the different health problems that it can develop, such as heart and thyroid problems, hip dysplasia, and sometimes tumors that can develop around the age of eight. Proper care and nourishment can help this dog to live a long and happy life. At the first sign of problems, however, one should immediately contact his or her veterinarian.

Grooming this breed is relatively easy. Bathing is only necessary if the dog is visibly dirty. This breed has natural oils in its coat that helps nourish its skin and keep it clean. Plus, this breed is known for their self-grooming habits that are very like that of a cat.

As far as exercise, this breed can do relatively well should one live in an apartment if the dog can have access to at least some outdoor play each day. Caution should be taken in cold climates, however, as this breed is temperature sensitive.
